Warsaw
- Warsaw has a population of 1.7 million
- Climate can be a surprise. It has very different seasons; Spring can be warm, Summer is usually hot and sunny, Autumn is crisp and Winter is just plain cold.
- Since its full membership into the EU, it has been rapidly undergoing modernisation of its infrastructure. Improvements to the metro line and the roads as well as the refurbishment of its old and historical buildings is happening at a blistering pace.
- 80% of the entire city was destroyed after the second World War. It has since been lovingly restored and its Old Town is a UNESCO site.
- Warsaw is generally very safe to walk about, but as in all major cities, beware of pickpockets.
- If you are exploring on your own, transport is very cheap
- Polish cuisine can be a little heavy, but generally eating out is of very good quality. The food is very fresh and reasonably priced.
- Alcohol is very cheap, especially for a European capital city.
- Warsaw is a host city for the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship
Krakow
- Krakow is the former capital of Poland.
- Largely untouched by the second World War.
- Tourist sites include Auschwitz, the Jewish quarter, salt mines, Market square, the University and the Cloth Hall Market
